Principal's report 30th October 2020

Principal’s Report

Our return to school continues to be very positive and the students have all settled back into their routine and are loving being back with their friends and staff. It is wonderful to see the students engaging in their learning and seeing their pride in themselves.

The weather has been beautiful and we are making the most of our fantastic outdoor learning areas.

We are following the COVIDSafe principles for schools which include.

  • Students and staff staying home if they are unwell
  • Practising good hand hygiene
  • Ensuring physical distancing where appropriate
  • Avoiding interactions in enclosed spaces
  • Making hand hygiene easy
  • Keeping surfaces clean and implementing enhanced environmental cleaning and disinfecting
  • Promoting outdoor air ventilation
  • Moving activities outdoors where possible

Spoonville

With the colourful handcrafted spoon characters emerging in Melbourne to offer a burst of enjoyment for children during remote learning we thought it would be a great idea to create our own Spoonville. All of the students are handcrafting their unique spoon characters during specialist sessions at school. They look really great and are out the front of the school for all to look at.

Kitchen Garden

It with great excitement that we have started our new kitchen garden project out the back of the school. The garden beds are being built and we hope to plant before the end of the year. We received a grant from the City of greater Dandenong and the Cassandra Gantner Foundation to complete the works. Next year we will extend the project to include an outdoor learning area, large garden shed, a greenhouse and chickens. This will provide our students we a wonderful program that will build independence through functional life skills, communication and to learn about positive food habits.

Wear your footy colours day

On Thursday the 22nd of October we dressed up in our footy colours. The students engaged in activities such as kicking the footy, hand balling and just having fun. We were lucky with the weather as it was a beautiful sunny day.

Student Voice, Agency and Leadership

You will soon receive a short survey in relation to student voice, agency and leadership. Activating all of these areas is a major goal of our Annual Implementation Plan where we want to maximise student learning. We currently have an active Student Representative Council (SRC) but we want to extend student voice, agency and leadership across the entire school. Can you please complete the survey and return it in the envelope provided. Thanks in advance for completing the survey.
