Music Therapy

The music therapy program is run by a registered music therapist (RMT) who runs sessions with the entire school over the academic year. Music and related activities are used to engage the students and work towards specific goals. Music therapy is distinct from music education, as it's focus is on non-musical goals. These goals might include communication goals, social goals, movement goals, mood and feelings goals, and/or academic goals. In a music therapy session people might sing, play instruments, dance, write their own songs and record them, use music technology, perform, listen and talk about music. It has been proven to be an effective way to motivate children with special needs, and a way to make learning and developing new skills enjoyable.
