Kitchen Garden Program

Springvale Park SDS is a member of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and has developed a Kitchen Garden Program based on the Foundation’s philosophy “Growing, Harvesting, Preparing, Sharing’.

The students are actively involved in growing produce and maintaining the vegetable gardens. The students work as a team to harvest and use the produce from the garden to create and taste a variety of seasonal healthy meals. The highlight of the program is sharing the food that they have grown and the meal that they have prepared with all of their peers.

The Kitchen Garden Program allows the students to investigate, experiment, manipulate, problem solve and succeed. It also gives them an opportunity to connect with nature and each other.
